Remembering a Founding Director and former Chairman of the Vinyl Council of Australia

The Vinyl Council of Australia (VCA) is saddened to learn of the passing of Cecil (‘Cec’) Abotomey, aged 91, and pays tribute to his outstanding contribution to the Australian PVC industry and the establishment of the Council.

Cec was a Founding Director of the VCA, serving on the Board from 22 June 1998 until 10 November 2004. He was appointed Chairman on 24 February 2000, providing leadership during the Council's formative years.

A passionate and tireless advocate for PVC and the industry, Cec worked alongside fellow industry leaders including Murray Winstanley, Rob Faulkner, David Sumner and Sophi Macmillan to establish the strong foundations on which the VCA continues to operate today.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing Cec will remember his infectious positivity, larger-than-life personality and enthusiasm for the industry. His warmth, energy and ability to light up a room made him a memorable figure and earned him many friendships across the Australian vinyl industry.

Cec's contribution extended well beyond his years of service on the Board. His commitment to building a strong, united industry voice helped shape an organisation that continues to advocate for the responsible manufacture, use and recovery of PVC products more than 25 years after its establishment.

The VCA acknowledges with gratitude Cec's leadership, dedication and enduring legacy.

On behalf of the VCA Board, staff and members, we extend our sincere condolences to Cec's family, friends and former colleagues. He will be fondly remembered.

Cec will be farewelled at a private ceremony near his home on the Gold Coast.
