Vinidex has officially opened its new Sustainability Hub in Toowoomba, Queensland, marking a significant investment in Australia's circular economy for plastic pipe manufacturing. The purpose-built facility combines advanced recycling technology with new manufacturing capability to recover plastic pipe waste and convert it into high-quality new products.

The Sustainability Hub addresses a long-standing challenge for the industry by creating large-scale infrastructure to recycle construction offcuts, manufacturing scrap and end-of-life PVC, HDPE and polypropylene pipe that would otherwise be sent to landfill. Recovered material is processed into recycled pellets and fed directly into dedicated extrusion lines producing corrugated drainage and stormwater pipes.

A key achievement of the facility is its ability to incorporate substantially higher levels of recycled content while maintaining product performance. Vinidex says all products manufactured at the site continue to meet the same Australian Standards as those produced from virgin material, demonstrating that increased circularity can be achieved without compromising quality.

The initiative also relies on collaboration across the supply chain. Vinidex accepts end-of-life pipe from customers across multiple states and has partnered with major infrastructure projects, including Western Sydney Airport Cargo Works and Queensland's Cross River Rail, to recover and recycle pipe offcuts. Since late 2025, more than 120 cubic metres of pipe material have already been diverted from landfill through the Cross River Rail partnership.

Across its Australian operations, Vinidex now processes approximately 12,000 tonnes of recycled material each year. The new Sustainability Hub demonstrates how investment in recycling infrastructure can strengthen domestic manufacturing, conserve valuable resources and support the transition to a more circular plastics economy.
